Grittleton House

Welcome to our family

My grandmother and father first visited Grittleton House in 1967, with the aim of purchasing some furniture that was for sale – in short, they ended up buying the house!  This was a very bold and visionary decision, whilst the house had plenty of charm and potential, it was in poor repair and needed a lot of attention.  With a great deal of hard work and love, the house has over the years been brought back to life.

Family has always been very important to us and Grittleton House has played a big part in this.  I have very fond memories of my childhood, playing hide and seek with my siblings, sliding down the banisters and failing to come home for tea on time as I was always engrossed in some outdoor activity!  As the current owner and custodian of the estate, along with the support of my wife Vanessa, our three children and trusted dog Juno, we are immensely proud to be taking the house into its exciting new phase, (even if the Peter Pan in me, at times, would love to be ten again making dens and climbing trees!).

I’m often asked what makes Grittleton House different and special?  Of course, its style and grandeur play a large part, but it is also quite simply family!  We love the house and are privileged to be part of it, we know it inside and out, and we love sharing it and seeing the joy it brings to others.

What’s my best piece of advice (I had some help on this one!)?  Plan in advance & delegate, if someone offers help – accept it.  Once the day finally arrives relax and enjoy it, go with the flow, who knows where it will take you.

I hope this has given you a small insight into our family and we look forward to welcoming you soon.

Best Wishes

Matthew Shipp
